How to Make a Twined Basket Kit
Making a twined basket is as easy as one, two, three! In this tutorial, we will show you how to make a simple twined basket using common household items.
To begin, gather the following supplies:
-Two pieces of sturdy cloth (any color will do)
-A needle and thread
-Basket weaving tool or scissors
-Ruler or piece of paper to measure length and width of each cloth strip
-Dried beans or rice (for weight)
1. Begin by folding each cloth strip in half so that the raw edges are together. Pin the ends together securely with a needle and thread. Make sure that your folds are tight and evenly spaced. You should now have a square shape.
Take your basket weaving tool or scissors and cut two evenly long strips from your folded cloth square. The strips should be at least twice as long as they are wide, but no longer than twice as wide as they are long. Be sure to keep the folds in place as you cut them!
Next, measure the height of your finished basket by tracing a line along one edge of one of the strips and then measuring off 1 inch on each side. Repeat for the other strip. Cut along the traced lines with your scissors/tool, leaving a 1 inch border around each circle (see picture below).
