Best Uses for This Cane Webbing
Use this cane webbing for chair seats, chair backs, cabinet doors, furniture inserts, and restoration projects where an 18” wide cane panel is the right fit. It works well for many repair jobs that require a classic open cane pattern.
For larger repair jobs, buyers may also compare this item with 50’ roll 1/2” fine open cane webbing or 18” wide cane webbing #109 sold by linear foot before choosing the best size.
Compatibility and Fit
This product is intended for furniture that has a routed groove around the opening. The cane webbing is placed into the groove and secured with spline after proper soaking and trimming.
Do not use this material for chairs with individual drilled holes around the frame. Those chairs usually require strand cane, not pre-woven webbing. If the frame needs spline, check the groove size before ordering reed spline 3/16” for 8 foot section or other spline sizes.
Ordering by the Foot
This cane webbing is sold by the running foot. Order the quantity based on the length you need. For example, quantity 1 should provide one running foot, while quantity 2 should provide two running feet when available.
If you need one continuous piece for a larger panel, confirm the cutting and shipping details before purchasing.
Installation Notes
Soak the cane webbing briefly before installation so it becomes easier to press into the groove. Avoid oversoaking or forcing dry cane into the frame, as this may cause cracking or uneven tension.
For cleaner installation, use proper caning tools such as the C.S. Osborne caning tool No.406 or a suitable 3/16” caning chisel when removing old spline or pressing material into place.
Care and Maintenance
After installation, allow the cane to dry naturally and tighten into position. Keep the finished cane surface indoors or in a dry protected area. Avoid heavy moisture, direct rain, or harsh cleaners, as natural cane can weaken when exposed to poor storage conditions.
Dust with a soft cloth and clean gently when needed. Do not overload a newly repaired cane seat until the material and spline are fully dry and secure.
