Size and Fit Guidance
Use the 1/8 inch, 3/16 inch, and 1/4 inch pieces to check which spline size fits your chair groove before starting the repair. The spline should sit firmly in the groove without forcing, splitting, or sitting too loose, so measuring the old spline first is still important.
If your project specifically needs a longer 3/16 inch spline, review 8 reed spline 65 feet before choosing the final supply. For larger repairs, multiple seats, or a full chair seat groove, 3/16 inch groove chair caning spline may be more practical than a short size-checking set.
Best Uses
This kit is helpful for checking spline size, replacing short sections of spline on pressed cane chair seats, cane webbing panels, small cabinet inserts, and wicker-style repair work. It is not the same as a complete chair seat caning kit, so longer spline, cane webbing, glue, wedges, or tools may be needed for a full repair.
For basket work or larger weaving practice, Gerrit basket weaving material may be a better match because it is sold as a heavier rattan material bundle. If the repair needs a thinner cane refill instead of spline, compare this item with medium 3mm chair cane before ordering.
Installation Notes
Before installation, remove the old spline and clean the groove so the new material can sit properly. Measure the groove width and depth before choosing which size from the kit to use, and test the fit before applying glue or pressing the spline fully into place.
For natural reed or rattan, light soaking may help make the material easier to bend around corners. Do not over-soak, and always test a small section first so the reed does not become weak, too soft, or difficult to press into the groove.
Care and Storage
Store unused reed spline in a dry place away from direct heat and moisture. Keep the coil or pieces from bending sharply during storage, as tight bends can cause cracks or uneven installation later.
After installation, avoid heavy moisture exposure and harsh cleaners. For chair seats or cane panels, clean gently with a dry or lightly damp cloth when needed.
What to Check Before Buying
Check the groove size on your chair or furniture frame before ordering. This set includes three sizes, but the correct fit depends on the actual groove measurement, old spline size, and repair method, not only the chair type.
Also confirm whether 6 feet per piece is enough for your repair. A full chair seat may need more length depending on seat size, groove shape, corners, and trimming waste, so a longer spline roll may be required.
