Best Uses for 3 mm Chair Cane
This medium chair cane is commonly used for traditional hand-caned chair seats where the cane is woven through drilled holes in the chair frame. It can also be used for chair backs, light wicker furniture repair, decorative weaving, reinforcing, binding, and re-wrapping small cane or rattan projects.
For basket and furniture weaving projects that need round reed instead of chair cane, compare rattan reed for basket weaving before choosing your material.
How to Prepare Before Weaving
Before use, soak the chair cane in water for about 15–20 minutes to make it more flexible and easier to handle. Avoid over-soaking, because too much moisture can weaken the material or make it harder to control during weaving.
Work slowly around corners and tight turns to reduce splitting. If you are repairing chair seats, check the hole spacing, cane width, and original weave style before starting. For thicker reed options, compare rattan reed basket weaving or wicker weaving wicker repair materials.
Important Buyer Notes
This product is best for hole-to-hole chair caning and similar hand-weaving work. It is not the same as pre-woven cane webbing, spline, or wide cane mesh sheets. If your chair has a groove around the seat instead of drilled holes, you may need natural rattan core spline chair material or cane webbing instead.
