Best Uses
This 3mm cane is useful for repairing chair seats and backs that are woven strand by strand through drilled holes. It is a good choice when your chair opening, hole size, and hole spacing match medium chair cane.
For smaller holes or tighter spacing, compare this product with narrow medium chair cane before ordering. For larger drilled holes or wider spacing, you may want to review common 3.5mm chair cane instead.
If you need a full project set with cane, tools, pegs, and instructions, a complete medium chair caning kit may be easier than buying each part separately.
Fit and Measuring Notes
Before ordering, check that your chair is designed for hand caning. Hand-caned chairs have individual drilled holes around the seat or back frame. Pressed cane chairs have a routed groove and use pre-woven cane webbing with spline.
Measure the diameter of the drilled holes and the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the next. These measurements help confirm whether medium 3mm cane is the right size for your chair.
Preparation and Weaving Notes
Soak the cane in warm water before weaving so it becomes flexible enough to pass through the chair holes without cracking. Work with the cane while it is damp, and re-dampen small sections if they start to dry during the project.
Keep the first rows slightly loose so the weave can be adjusted, then tighten gradually as the pattern develops. Use the included binder cane to finish the outer edge after the main seat pattern is complete. If you need extra edge material, keep 4mm binder cane available before starting.
Care and Maintenance
After weaving, let the chair cane dry fully before regular use. As it dries, the cane will tighten into place.
Keep the finished cane away from heavy moisture, harsh cleaners, and direct outdoor weather. Dust with a soft cloth and wipe light dirt with a slightly damp cloth when needed.
