Best Use and Compatibility
This 2.75mm narrow-medium chair cane is made for chairs that need a slightly heavier cane than fine 2.5mm, but not as thick as common 3.5mm cane. It is useful for replacing worn, broken, or missing cane on traditional hand-caned chair seats.
For larger repair jobs or multiple chairs, compare this product with chair cane narrow medium 2.75mm 1000 ft coil before ordering.
For a slightly thinner cane option, chair cane fine 2.5mm 270 ft coil may be better for smaller holes or closer hole spacing.
For a heavier cane option, chair cane common 3.5mm 270 ft coil may be more suitable for larger drilled holes and wider spacing.
How to Choose the Correct Cane Size
Before ordering, measure both the hole diameter and the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the next hole. This narrow-medium 2.75mm cane is listed for 1/4” drilled holes spaced about 5/8” center to center.
Choosing the correct size helps the cane pull through smoothly and sit with proper tension. If the cane is too thin, the finished seat may look loose. If the cane is too thick, it may be difficult to weave and can place extra pressure on the chair frame.
For smaller or more delicate chair seats, chair cane fine fine 2.25mm 270 ft coil may be a better match.
Installation Notes
Soak the strand cane before weaving so it becomes flexible enough to pass through the drilled holes without cracking. Avoid over-soaking, because cane that becomes too soft can stretch too much during installation.
Remove the old cane, clean the holes, and inspect the frame before starting the new seat. Clean holes make the weaving process easier and help the finished seat look neater.
The included binder cane is used around the outside edge after the seat is woven. If extra edging material is needed, 4mm binder cane can be ordered separately.
Care After Installation
Allow the finished cane seat to dry fully before regular use. Natural cane tightens as it dries, so using the chair too soon can affect the final tension.
Keep the finished chair in a dry indoor or covered area. Long exposure to direct sun, moisture, or high heat may weaken natural cane over time.
