Best Use and Compatibility
This 2.25mm Fine Fine chair cane is best for smaller or finer hand-caned chair seats where the drilled holes are close together. It is commonly used when the chair pattern needs a narrow cane strand rather than a larger fine, narrow-medium, or common size.
For larger projects or multiple chair seats, compare this item with chair cane fine fine 2.25mm 1000 ft coil before ordering.
If your chair needs the next larger cane size, chair cane fine 2.5mm 270 ft coil may be a better match.
For wider hole spacing, review chair cane narrow medium 2.75mm 270 ft coil before choosing your size.
How to Choose the Correct Cane Size
Measure the drilled hole size and the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the next hole before ordering. This product is listed for 3/16” drilled holes with about 1/2” center-to-center spacing.
If the cane is too thin, the finished seat may look loose or uneven. If the cane is too thick, it may be difficult to pull through the chair holes and can put extra pressure on the frame.
The included binder strand is used around the outside edge after the seat is woven. For extra border material, 4mm binder cane can be ordered separately.
Installation Notes
Soak the strand cane before weaving so it becomes flexible enough to pass through the chair holes without cracking. Avoid over-soaking, because very soft cane can stretch too much while weaving.
Remove all old cane from the drilled holes before starting the new seat. Clean holes make the weaving process smoother and help the finished seat sit neatly.
A C.S. Osborne caning tool No.406 can help guide cane through the holes and reduce hand strain during repeated weaving steps.
Care After Installation
Allow the finished cane seat to dry fully before regular use. Natural cane tightens as it dries, so the seat should not be used too soon after weaving.
Keep the chair in a dry indoor or covered area. Long exposure to moisture, direct sun, or high heat can weaken natural cane over time.
