Fit and Compatibility
Use this reed spline when the groove size on your chair or panel calls for #9 spline. The 1/4-inch size is commonly used to hold pressed cane webbing in place inside a routed groove.
Before ordering, measure the groove instead of guessing from the old spline. Old spline can shrink, swell, crack, or break during removal, so the groove measurement is usually more reliable.
If your project needs a smaller spline size, use the related #8 Reed Spline 3/16″ option only when your chair or panel calls for a smaller groove size.
When to Use This Reed Spline
This product is a good choice when you already have cane webbing and only need replacement spline for several repairs. The 5-pack is helpful for multiple chairs, repeat restoration jobs, or keeping extra spline on hand for future caning work.
For projects using a full pressed-cane seat kit, a pressed cane webbing kit may be better than buying spline alone.
Installation Notes
Remove the old spline carefully, clean the groove, and make sure the new cane webbing is seated evenly before installing the new spline. If the spline needs softening before use, briefly soak it only long enough to make it flexible and follow your project instructions.
Work slowly around corners and curved areas. Press the spline evenly into the groove, trim the ends cleanly, and allow any adhesive or finish to dry fully before using the repaired seat or panel.
For radio weave repairs, the radio weave cane webbing kit may be a better match if you need webbing, spline, wedges, and instructions together.
Tools and Supplies to Check
This product is for reed spline only unless the listing confirms otherwise. Cane webbing, wedges, glue, chisel, and other tools may need to be purchased separately.
A caning chisel for reed spline can help remove old spline from the groove before installing new cane webbing.
Storage and Care
Store unused spline in a dry indoor area away from direct heat, moisture, and heavy weight. Keep it coiled or supported so it does not kink before installation.
